Part of Hong Leong Bank (HLB)’s growth is attributable to a recognisably strong talent brand. However, with 8,500 employees and growing, there’s increasing pressure on HLB’s Talent Acquisition Team.
For example, to fully enrol their Management Associates Program, HLB needs to screen a pool of more than 1,500 candidates to hire just 20 people. Aligned with the banks “Digital to the Core” mission, they sought a smarter strategy to optimise their recruitment process.
With a bot already performing HR Helpdesk support, the advisory team recommended that HLB leveraged their existing experience and avatar, known as HALI to address the bank’s growing needs.
By studying user experience for both candidates and recruiters, our teams found that training Hali to employing “The Big 5” personality trait test and to conduct interviews, HLB would save hours reviewing thousands of candidates to find the handful that were a perfect fit.
Testing multiple version and programming an entirely new engine, the development team identified key traits that HLB was looking for and equipped Hali with the ability to discern which candidates would be an ideal fit.
Our new engine named Smart Recruiter combines psycholinguistics with machine learning to create a powerful screening assistant to support the banks talent acquisition team. Trained to shortlist candidates that match the banks recruitment criteria, the bot efficiently detects whether a candidate is digitally literate, analytical and possesses the right personality for the job.
All candidate information is available in a dashboard and with transparent data access so recruiters can easily see if HALI is doing its job.
HALI for talent acquisition has completely transformed how HLB’s recruiters use data for recruitment, transforming a tedious process, for both candidate and recruiter, into a fun, highly efficient and award-winning experience.
2X Larger Candidate Pool
Smart Recruiter removed traditional subjectivity and bias the recruiters were using, such as GPA and degree type, thereby widening the candidate pool by 2X. HALI’s built-in referral module increased the candidate pool by another 10%.
1,700 Hours Saved
HALI was able to efficiently screen and shortlist candidates, matching 7% of candidates to the banks criteria, saving recruiters over 1,700 hours of calling and interviewing time.
Candidates loved the experience, rating HALI 3.5/4. This was supported by a massive referral rate of 40%, beating the industry average by 5X.
